Native American jewelry. Well-crafted items, using various stones and fabulously fashioned.

Native American Indian tribes traditionally made jewelry from beads and shells, and metals like copper and silver. Ivory was also used as well as stones such as amber and turquoise.

New techniques in fashioning metal were developed after the arrival of Europeans and as a result of their influence. New materials like glass beads were also adopted.

In the southwest, the art of metal jewelry blossomed amongst the Navajo, Zuni and Hopi, who learned the use of silver from the Spanish. The Hopi silver overlay bracelets, and the turquoise inlay rings of the Navajo developed their distinctive exquisite styles.
